21. Oct - Piotr Duda was elected new President of the National Commission of NSZZ „Solidarnosc”, with 166 votes against 139 votes for Janusz Sniadek, former President. Piotr Duda, in his speech, thanked for support and trust of the delegates for 25th National Congress of Delegates held in Wroclaw. He also thanked Janusz Sniadek for the style of electoral campaign and invited him to co-operate.
Piotr Duda is 48, and he’s been a member of “S” since 1980 when he started working as a turner in Gliwice Steelworks. In his speech he emphasized the need to make the Union more effective and visible, with accents evenly distributed between the tradition and history and the demands of the present time. He promised more independence of regional structures in organizing campaign, fewer but more effective and larger protest campaigns, and strengthening the Union’s headquarters in Warsaw. In terms of political activities, he stressed that it’s the political parties that should ask for the Union’s attention, not the other way round.
The Congress also elected the members of the National Commission and adopted a number of resolutions.
