The railway workers prepare to strikes

15 Jan. - The railway workers united in "S" demanded salaries rise in their sector. The Union has announced a strike alert. Unionists demand increase of the average remuneration in all companies of the PKP group so as to gain minimum 100% of the average remuneration in the enterprise sector.

Presently railway workers' salaries make them change this business for the better paid jobs. If there are not any rises, staff may become anxious and then a general strike will be likely - says Henryk Grymel - the chairman of the railway "Solidarnosc"

During the sessions of the Council of National Railwaymen Section of NSZZ "Solidarnosc' unionists decided to demand from the department of the infrastructure to write off the debts of the PKP companies and also to present possible plans of privatization of their branch.

Also they wanted the department to make an agreement with the company PKP Regional Transport. Such an agreement would guarantee financing for all the interregional trains. Unionists warned that without that agreement tens of interregional rains might be eliminated.
